Overview
As the chair of Koley Jessen’s Data Privacy and Security practice area, Maureen Fulton dedicates her practice to advising businesses in developing comprehensive privacy and data security programs. Maureen uses her experience as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and as a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals to guide companies in navigating through the complexities of state, federal, and international privacy laws and regulations. Her experience positions her to guide clients through a wide range of matters, including compliance counseling, risk management, incident response, and litigation.
Maureen regularly counsels clients on the intricacies of key privacy regulations, including European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA), the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (CPRA), the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), the Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA), the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA), and the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA). In tandem with the Data Privacy and Security team, Maureen tracks new privacy laws and regulations as they emerge. She actively supports clients in the ongoing task of updating their privacy policies, ensuring compliance with evolving legal requirements.
In an evolving field, Maureen also counsels clients on artificial intelligence matters intersecting with data privacy, ranging from design, to governance, to regulatory compliance and defense.
Maureen has extensive experience in performing data privacy and security due diligence for buyers and sellers in merger and acquisition transactions. She also assists clients in preparing for and remedying data breach incidents, including managing state-specific breach notifications and identifying the associated litigation risks. Maureen acts as interim privacy counsel when clients need additional support on privacy-related matters.
Maureen regularly writes and speaks on a variety of subjects encompassing technology, privacy, and cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence topics.
