Overview
With a practice solely focused on federal, state, and international tax matters, Nicholas Bjornson has significant experience in helping clients find tax efficiencies and navigate thorny tax issues through his clear, pragmatic advice.
Nick has helped C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, business trusts, individuals, estates and trusts, tax-exempt organizations, and regulated businesses such as insurance companies and banks navigate various tax matters. He has experience dealing with all levels of the Internal Revenue Service, from private letter ruling requests to collection due process hearings through the audit and Appeals Office processes at the local and regional levels. He also represents taxpayers in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service, the Nebraska Department of Revenue, and other state and local taxing authorities.
His transactional tax practice focuses on private equity and M&A transactions, real estate transactions, funds, spinoffs, joint ventures, reorganizations, and recapitalizations. To implement the most tax-efficient results, Nick works closely with your accountants and attorneys in our other practice areas to achieve optimal tax benefits and economic consequences.
He takes pride in understanding tax regulations and staying on top of enforcement and regulatory actions by the Internal Revenue Service and other state and local taxing authorities. Including being involved in drafting legislative and regulatory changes to tax rules.
Nick has been recognized for the service he provides to his community by Legal Aid of Nebraska and by Omaha Magazine as a top lawyer for his work in Tax Law. In addition to his J.D., Nicholas holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law.
